Kalyan Chakraborty

Research Summary:

I am studying the divisibility and indivisibility of class numbers of number fields( quadratic and cubic) and function fields by a given integer. Working in this direction, recently I got a result alongwith A. Mukhopadhyay in case of quadratic function fields. This work will appear in PAMS. Work is still in progress to study various other cases.
I am working on exploring the relationship between the Galois group and the class group of torsion fields( fields obtained by adjoining torsion points of an elliptic curve defined over rational numbers).

Invited Lectures/Seminars:

(1) Gave a full semster graduate course on ``Measure Theory''.
(2) Co-ordinating ``Cryptography '' seminars and gave ten lectures on ``number theory and cryptography''.

Other Activities:

(1)Conducted last year's ``Talent Search'' test in Mathematics.
(2) Organised ``VSSP-03'' in Mathematics and gave tweleve lectures on ``Algebraic Number Theory''.
