How to reach HRI

All participants who have informed us their travel itinerary will be picked up from the respective train station (Allahabad Junction) or Airport (Allahabad/Varanasi). A travel registration form will be up in January and you are required to fill in all the details before 30 January, 2014. You are requested to read the following instructions regarding travel.

Upon arrival at HRI, you are requested to cooperate with security at the main gate, show them the ID and/or invitation letter, and register your names with them.

By Air :

Allahabad :

The nearest airport to HRI is Bamrauli Airport, Allahabad. Air India operates several flights from Delhi Airport (two flights on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; one flight on Saturday and Sunday; and no flights on Wednesday) and Mumbai Airport (two flights on Monday, Thursday and Friday; one flight on Tuesday; and no flights on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday). However, there may be frequent rescheduling and occasional canceling of the flights. So please consult the Air India Flight Schedule and Flight Status for your journey.

Please note that Allahabad airport is not a fully functional civilian airport and hence we cannot send the cab to exit doors close to the arrival gate. You are requested to leave the airport premises, walk down about 100-150m to the main street where a cab will wait for you with a name-board "HRI".

Varanasi :

One can also fly to Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, Babatpur, Varanasi and drive to HRI, which takes about 3 hours. There are many daily flights from Delhi and Mumbai operated by Air India. You are requested to walk down about 100m to the parking area where a cab will wait for you with a name-board "HRI".

By Train :

Allahabad is well connected by trains to all major cities in India. There are many trains every day between Allahabad and Delhi, Kolkata (Calcutta), Mumbai (Bombay), and Chennai (Madras) operated by Indian Railways. Please note that you need to arrive at Allahabad Junction (ALD), which is the closest train station to HRI.

Those who arrive at Allahabad Junction (ALD) should exit via Platform Number 1 to the "City side" of the station. Please DO NOT exit via Platform Number 10 to the "Civil Lines side" as we will not be able to send a cab to that area.

A cab will wait for you at the City side with a name-board "HRI". You may have to share the cab if there are multiple, (almost) simultaneous arrival of participants.

Request the cab driver to take you to the HRI guest house and also to wait at the GH for some time. Some of you are accommodated in apartments on campus and after registering your entry at the GH, the same cab will take you to those apartments.

Important Information

You may contact any of the emergency numbers provided with. However, if you miss the cab and emergnecy numbers are not responding, you may wish to try out the following as a last resort.

(1) If you come out of the "Civil Lines side", there are HRI buses that ply between the station and HRI at a frequency of roughly one in 1.5 hrs. You should consult the Bus Time Table to know the timings. You are requested to cooperate with the security/driver and show them the ID or invitation letter before entering the bus.

(2) You may exit via 'Civil lines side' and catch cycle/auto-rickshaws to reach our city guest house. Our Institute buses run between the campus and the Institute city guest house (for technical reasons, it is called HRI camp office) at a regular interval. The city guest house is located at:

HRI City Guest House
10A, Kutchery Road (K.G. Marg)
Allahabad 211 002, India
Phone: +91 (532) 2548 140, 2548 150

The city guest house is about 5 Kms from the civil lines side of Allahabad Junction train Station. You can get cycle rickshaws for about INR 30/- or autorickshaws (rare to find) for about INR 50/- to reach to the city guest house. While taking cycle/auto-rickshaws, you should tell the driver that you wish to go to Police Lines near State Bank of India (Main branch). Once you see the State bank of India on your right hand side, look out for HRI City guest house on your right side, just a few meters away. In the city GH, a security guard is available round the clock. You may check with him the bus timings to catch the HRI bus.

(3) If you come as a group, you can hire a whole tempo (3 wheelers) to come directly to the HRI campus (rate is about Rs. 250/-). One may have to bargain a bit. You should ask the driver to take you to Chhatnag Ghat, Jhunsi. Possibly he will be knowing HRI. If not, you can tell him that you have to go to Birla school. HRI campus is situated near the Birla school. Another known landmark in this area is the Sadafal Ashram.
