The Harish-Chandra Research Institute

Admissions to the graduate programs in mathematics

HRI conducts a regular Ph.D. as well an integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. program in mathematics, in collaboration with the Homi Bhaba National Institute (HBNI) and the University of Allahabad. The regular Ph.D. program is open to students with a M.Sc. degree in mathematics, while the integrated program is open to candidates with a bachelors degree in science or engineering. Candidates who wish to apply for this programme need not send in any application to HRI. However, they must apply for the Ph.D. Scholarships of the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) and appear for that screening test. The advertisement of the NBHM Ph.D. Scholarships examination is expected to appear in the national newspapers in the last quarter of each year. HRI will directly get the test scores and copies of the applications from the NBHM and will independently send call letters for interview to successful candidates.

Also, anyone having CSIR Research Fellowship for the particular year can contact us (by post or email to any one of the faculty members at HRI) on or before 31st May for appearing in HRI Ph. D. fellowship interview.

You will find in the links below a copy of the advertisement for NBHM Ph.D. Scholarships examination for each year as soon as it appears and some sample question papers. Important dates for NBHM applications can also be found in these links.
