Travel directions to arrive at HRI:

The meeting will be held in the picturesque campus of the Harish-Chandra Research Institute situated in the outskirts of Allahabad, a city in India. The campus is on the banks of the confluence of two major rivers in India, the Ganga and the Yamuna. There are nice pathways to walk around campus and see plenty of birds, including peacocks.

By air:

International Airport:

The nearest international airport to Allahabad is Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi which is well-connected to most of the major cities of the world.

The nearest airport to HRI is Bamrauli Airport, Allahabad. Air India has flights between Delhi and Allahabad every day of the week.


One can also fly to Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport Babatpur, Varanasi and drive to HRI, Allahabad which takes about 3 hours. There are many daily flights from Delhi and Mumbai operated by Air India, Jet Airways, Indigo, Spicejet, and GoAir. There are also seasonal flights from Bangkok and Colombo.

For the speakers: If you are being paid by us for your travel, you must take Air India flights. This is a Government of India regulation we have comply with. We will make arrangements for your pickup from any of the three places: Allahabad railway station, Allahabad airport or Varanasi airport.

By train:

Allahabad is well connected by trains to all major cities in India. There are many trains every day between Allahabad and Delhi, Kolkata (Calcutta), and Mumbai (Bombay) operated by Indian Railways. Please note that you need to arrive at Allahabad Junction.

For the participants: You will be paid train fare from your home institute to Allahabad and back. Masters students and JRF are eligible for ACIII fare, and SRF, postdocs and faculty are eligible for ACII fare.

Reaching HRI from Allahabad Railway station: Auto ricshaws are available from the railway station. Tell the driver that you want to go to HRI in Jhunsi. Settle the rate before hiring one. A ride typically costs around Rs 300. Cars may be available from outside platform no. 1. But will be more expensive. We cannot make reimbursement for auto or taxi rides for the participants.
