Ramanujan Mathematical Society is holding its 26th annual
meeting at Allahabad during 27th September - 5th October, 2011. There
will be two workshops and followed by a conference. Workshops will be
held at Harish-Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad (during the period
27th september - 1st October, 2011) and the conference
will be held at the university of Allahabad (during 2-5 October, 2011).

RMS Workshops
There will be two workshops on (1) Additive Combinatorics (2) Recent
trends in Probability Theory.
(1) Additive Combinatorics organized by G. Prakash and R.
Thangadurai.
Aim of the workshop: The famous celebrated result of Szemeredi
states
that
a subset of positive integers having a positive upper density contains
arbitrarily long arithmetic progressions. This particular result of
Szemeredi has various proofs including the one using combinatorics by
Szemeredi, one using analysis and combinatorics by Gowers and one using
ergodic theory by Furstenberg. In this workshop we shall try to cover
these
three proofs and indicate the recent developments in the subject.
Preliminary workshop: During 20th September to 26th September,
2011, Harish-Chandra Research Institute organizes a preliminary workshop on
the above topics to cover the basics. Interested people can apply. Limited
fund is available to cover the selected participants' travel during the
workshop period. This workshop is supported by HRI under the XIth plan
project "Special years in mathematics."
Speakers for the both parts of the workshop:
-
Sukumar Das Adhikari (HRI, Allahabad)
-
R. Balasubramanian (IMSc, Chennai)
- Siddhartha Bhattacharya (TIFR, Mumbai)
- S.G. Dani (TIFR, Mumbai)
- S. A. Katre (University of Pune)
- Anirban Mukhopadhyay (IMSc, Chennai)
- Gyan Prakash (HRI, Allahabad)
- B. Ramakrishnan (HRI, Allahabad)
- Purushottam Rath (CMI, Chennai)
- R. Thangadurai (HRI, Allahabad)
(2) Recent trends in Probability Theory
organized by Manjunath Krishnapur and Sreekar Vadlamani during the
period 27th September - 1st October, 2011
Speakers:
-
B.V. Rao, (CMI, Chennai), on "Concentration inequalities"
-
Alok Goswami (Indian Statistical Institute) on "Topics in Brownian
motion"
-
Mrinal Ghosh, (Indian Institute of Science) on "Mathematical
Finance"
-
Manjunath Krishnapur (Indian Institute of Science) on "Random
trees"
