Responsibilities

  1. Seminars

    Postdoctoral fellows are expected to regularly attend and engage in research seminars and colloquia. These academic activities may be pursued independently or coordinated with a faculty mentor.

  2. Teaching Responsibilities

    Teaching responsibilities may be assigned to postdoctoral fellows. The teaching responsibilities could be as a Teaching Assistant (TA) for SPIM or graduate/master's courses.

    • Senior postdoctoral fellows may be assigned the duty of independent course instructors.
  3. Institute Acknowledgement

    Postdoctoral fellows are expected to acknowledge the institute in research publications/preprints communicated during their tenure as postdocs at HRI.

    It should be in the following format:

    Harish-Chandra Research Institute, A CI of Homi Bhabha National Institute, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh 211019, India.
  4. Academic Reports

    Annual reports or other timely research reports requested by the institute should be submitted as per the deadlines.

  5. Report before the End of Tenure

    One month before the end of their tenure at HRI, postdoctoral fellows must submit a comprehensive final report to the PDF committee. Please email this report to compdfmath (at) hri (dot) res (dot) in.

    The report should include:

    • A summary of research contributions.
    • A complete list of publications.
    • Details of participation in scientific activities and other academic responsibilities during the tenure.
    • Future plans after leaving HRI (optional but encouraged).

Second Year Extension

Application for Extension

To apply for a tenure extension, postdoctoral fellows must submit their application to the Math PDF Committee at least one month before their first-year term expires.

Your application must include:

  • The exact date your current term expires.
  • An updated CV containing a list of publications and preprints.
  • A brief report highlighting the research and work completed during your first year at HRI.

Once your application is received, the committee will schedule your PDF extension talk.

Extension procedure

Extension beyond Second Year

Please note that extensions beyond the second year are considered exceptional and, if approved, are generally only granted for a few months. Applications for these extensions are evaluated during our standard June and November cycles.

  • Deadline: You must submit your application by the June 15 or November 15 deadline. Please ensure the deadline you apply under is at least one month prior to the expiration of your second-year term.
  • Submission: Email your application to compdfmath (at) hri (dot) res (dot) in.
  • Presentation: As part of the review process, candidates are required to give a seminar talk on their research work.

Documents required:-

  1. A covering letter mentioning the date on which the second year term expires.
  2. Current CV with updated list of publications & preprints, highlight the publications and preprints of work done at HRI.
  3. A report of the work done in the two year tenure at HRI and a proposed research plan for the period of extension requested by the candidate.
  4. Two recommendation letters must reach the committee by the relevant deadline. Recommendation of applicant's mentor at HRI, if any, is necessary.
