Applying to the programme

Admission Process

Admission 2027-2028

The admission process includes a national-based written test followed by an interview.

  1. National-Based Written Test

    • NBHM Window: Harish-Chandra Research Institute uses the national level NBHM Scholarship Written Test as a preliminary screening test for the selection. To apply for the HRI Mathematics Ph.D. programme, candidates must score above a cut-off point determined by HRI. The NBHM Exam normally takes place during the month of January.
    • CSIR-UGC Window: In an admission round, candidates who have qualified the CSIR UGC NET (JRF) in specific, pre-announced exam sessions are eligible to apply to the Ph.D. programme at HRI, provided their rank falls within the announced cutoff.
  2. Interview

    • The eligible applicants will be called for an online interview. The interview schedule will be announced, and emails will be sent to eligible applicants well in advance.
    • The application period, followed by online interviews, is typically completed within the month of April to May.
  3. Selection

    • Following the completion of the interviews, the final list of selected candidates will be announced on the HRI website.
    • The selected candidates are expected to produce the hard copy of the relevant documents showing that they have the required eligibility, at the time of joining.
